Above is an introductory flyer about music therapy and speech apraxia, provided by Riverstone Therapies, LLC. This flyer describes how music therapy can help individuals with apraxia of speech improve motor planning and speech fluency, due to music’s naturally engaging and motivating features. Three techniques are described, including Melodic Intonation Therapy, which uses singing and tapping to combine music, speech, and rhythm to retrain language pathways; rhythmic cuing and instrument play, which uses drums, rhythm sticks, or tapping during speech tasks to reinforce syllable timing, sound sequencing, and engagement; and song-based interventions, which embed target words in familiar songs to support repetition and retention of speech goals.
