FAQ

  • What types of therapy do you offer?

Right now, we offer music therapy. We continue to expand our therapy offerings and are looking forward to soon offering speech, physical, and occupational therapies, as well as art and drama therapy.

  • What is music therapy?

Music therapy is the clinical use of music by a credentialed music therapist to address non-music goals, such as motor skills, academic skills, speech/communication skills, and social and emotional skills. It’s backed by decades of research, going back to the World War 2 era, and is used in many different therapy settings. You can learn more about what music therapy is on the website for the American Music Therapy Association here.

  • How do I schedule an appointment?

The first step would be to schedule a consultation with one of our therapists. That form can be found here: https://forms.gle/NrDadKFLPvvfjF57A

A therapist will reply within three business days!

  • Do I need a referral to receive therapy services?

No, as we are a private pay practice (out-of-network), we do not require a doctor’s referral. If you plan to submit your receipts to your insurance provider, please check with them as to whether they require a referral for reimbursement.

  • Do you offer in person or telehealth sessions?

Yes to both! Our sessions are generally in person, but if you require telehealth, your therapist will discuss options with you.

  • What is your attendance policy?

We ask that all cancellations are made at least 24 hours prior to the therapy session, except in the case of an emergency or acute illness. Just like a doctor’s office, notice given in less than 24 hours (except in case of emergency) will result in a charge for the session being added to your account. Our therapists will also provide at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations, again with the exception of emergencies and acute illness. You may review all of our policies here.

  • How do I know if therapy is working?

    You’ll see the improvements!

Therapy takes time, and so we recommend allowing at least 6 to 8 weeks to begin to see the effect the therapy is having.

  • How long are therapy sessions, and how often do we meet?

This depends on the recommendation from the therapist you see for your consultation. Sessions range from 30 minutes to one hour, depending on age and need, and are most often one time per week, but may be more, depending on need. Frequency and duration is something you will work out with your therapist(s) to find the right balance for you!

  • Do you accept insurance, and what are you payment options?

At this time, we do not accept insurance, although we can provide receipts for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement, or to use for your taxes.

  • What does an interdisciplinary approach look like at Riverstone Therapies?

Each therapy available at Riverstone Therapies offers high-quality services that will help you or your loved one grow toward their highest potential. When multiple therapists are seen by the same individual, though, the therapists automatically become part of the client’s Riverstone interdisciplinary team and formulate goals and objectives in order to support the client’s holistic progress across therapies.

  • What are the benefits of your interdisciplinary approach?

An interdisciplinary practice brings together specialists from different fields to provide comprehensive care, ensuring that every aspect of a person’s needs is addressed. With shared goals and collaborative problem-solving, therapists work together to create a seamless, well-rounded treatment plan. By approaching challenges from multiple perspectives, we can develop more effective, individualized strategies that support long-term success.

  • Do I/does my loved one need to see more than one therapist at Riverstone Therapies?

Not at all! We are here to support you or your loved one’s needs, and if they would benefit from attending one type of therapy, then we are happy to find the right fit.

  • If my child receives multiple therapies at school, what is the benefit of also receiving interdisciplinary services outside of school?

Great question! Private therapy services may address a wider range of needs compared to school-based therapies, which may be more focused on education-oriented goals (which are also important!). Private practice also allows for more flexibility in approach and individualized support (compared to school group therapy), and also provides more opportunities for family involvement, among other benefits.
