FAQ

  • What types of therapy do you offer?

Right now, we offer music therapy. We continue to expand our therapy offerings and are looking forward to soon offering speech, physical, and occupational therapies, as well as art and drama therapy.

  • What is music therapy?

Music therapy is the clinical use of music by a credentialed music therapist to address non-music goals, such as motor skills, academic skills, speech/communication skills, and social and emotional skills. It’s backed by decades of research, going back to the World War 2 era, and is used in many different therapy settings. You can learn more about what music therapy is on the website for the American Music Therapy Association here.

  • How do I schedule an appointment?

The first step would be to schedule a phone call with one of our therapists. That can be done here: https://forms.gle/NrDadKFLPvvfjF57A

A therapist will reply within three business days!

  • Do I need a referral to receive therapy services?

No, as we are a private pay practice, we do not require a doctor’s referral. If you plan to submit your receipts to your insurance provider, please check with them as to whether they require a referral for reimbursement.

  • Do you offer in person or telehealth sessions?

Our sessions are generally in person, but if you require telehealth, your therapist will discuss options with you.

  • What is your attendance policy?

We ask that all cancellations are made at least 24 hours prior to the therapy session, except in the case of an emergency or acute illness. Just like a doctor’s office, notice given in less than 24 hours (except in case of emergency) will result in a charge for the session being added to your account. Our therapists will also provide at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations, again with the exception of emergencies and acute illness. You may review all of our policies here.

  • How do I know if therapy is working?

    You’ll see the improvements!

Therapy takes time, and so we recommend allowing at least 6 to 8 weeks to begin to see the effect the therapy is having.

  • How long are therapy sessions, and how often do we meet?

This depends on the recommendation from the therapist you see for your consultation. Sessions range from 30 minutes to one hour, depending on age and need, and are most often one time per week, but may be more, depending on need. Frequency and duration is something you will work out with your therapist(s) to find the right balance for you!

  • What are you payment options?

We accept cash, check, credit card, and Zelle payments.

  • What is your refund policy?

We do not offer refunds for therapy services.

For our groups running in collaboration with local adult schools (i.e., you went to a third-party website via a link from our homepage), we defer to each school’s refund policy.

For inclusive groups run directly through Riverstone (i.e., you paid for the group directly through the RIverstone Store), we don’t offer refunds, but we are happy to apply your payment as a credit toward a future music group so you don’t miss out on the experience. Requests for credit must be made before the class’s first session.

Our policies can be found here.

  • Do you accept insurance?

Music therapy isn’t considered an in-network service by most insurance providers, so we don’t bill insurance directly. Some clients, however, are able to use out-of-network benefits with a doctor’s referral stating that music therapy is medically necessary.

Because coverage varies, if a claim is denied, the client or responsible party would be responsible for payment at our courtesy cash rate. We’re always happy to provide invoices or documentation to help you submit for potential reimbursement, or provide you with a superbill at the end of the year.

Please discuss with one of our administrators if you have any questions, because insurance can be complicated!

  • How does Riverstone Therapies support an interdisciplinary approach?

We are happy to communicate with your loved one’s instructors, therapies, doctors, etc. (with your permission) to ensure our services are best supporting your loved one’s therapeutic progress. With your permission, we are also happy to review Individual Service Plans (ISPs) and Individual Education Plans (IEPs) with your permission, to gain a fuller understanding of your loved one’s strengths and progress areas.

  • What are the benefits of your interdisciplinary approach?

An interdisciplinary practice brings together specialists from different fields to provide comprehensive care, ensuring that every aspect of a person’s needs is addressed. With shared goals and collaborative problem-solving, therapists work together to create a seamless, well-rounded treatment plan. By approaching challenges from multiple perspectives, we can develop more effective, individualized strategies that support long-term success.
